A workshop on “Qualitative Research” was organized at St Agnes Centre for PG Studies and Research on 5 August 2019 by the Department of clinical psychology under the guidance of Sr. Dr. Vinora A.C., The principal of the department of clinical psychology and the PG coordinator of the college, Dr. Kavyashree K.B., The HOD of the department of clinical psychology, and Ms. Shruti Rajan Kappil, assistant professor in the department of clinical psychology. The resource person for the day was Mr. Dan Isaac Pothiyil who is a senior scale assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Psychology at Manipal College of Health Professions whose expertise lies in the areas of CBT, Sex therapy, School psychology, Child and Adolescent psychotherapy, Suicide prevention intervention, Learning enhancement intervention, Qualitative research in psychology, and Test construction. The workshop was intended to enlighten the participants on the techniques of conducting a qualitative research and the ways of analyzing the data obtained from this type of research.
The workshop started at 9:30 a.m. with a silent prayer. The MC was done by Ms. Vasudha V C, M.Sc student. Ms. Shruti Rajan Kappil, Assistant professor in the Department of Clinical psychology of the college, introduced and welcomed the esteemed resource person. The first session was from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mr. Pothiyil started his first session by giving an outline of qualitative research. Some of the topics covered were: Characteristics and aims of Qualitative research, The components of Qualitative research, and Research design. This was followed by an interactive session on the “Do’s and Don’ts in a Qualitative Research”. The second session commenced at 2:00 p.m. where Mr. Pothiyil gave in depth information on thematic analysis and guided each participant group on how to analyze the research data manually and by using softwarewhile doing a thematic analysis through an interactive session.
The workshop ended at 4:30 p.m. with a feedback session. Ms. Arathy Chandran, I M.Sc student, proposed the vote of thanks.
