A 5- Day workshop titled “A Quick Start to Apache Spark” was conducted during the Christmas break-December 2020 on 28, 30, 31 December 2020 and 4 and 5 January 2021 at St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru. The resource person for the workshop was Mr G.K. Bhat, Director, Kakunje Software Pvt. Ltd, Mangaluru. The Department coordinators were Mrs Hannabel Alva and Ms Deepthi Maria Varghese, Assistant Professors, Department of Big Data Analytics.
On day 1 of the workshop, students were introduced to Spark and learned to Install spark. On day 2, the resource person highlighted the interactive analysis features of the Spark shell. Day 3 included programming with PySpark. Day 4 and 5 included programming with datasets and working with RDD’s. Students were enthusiastic throughout the workshop and got personal attention from the resource person as the audience included only the third semester students.
