The Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, National Service Scheme, Mangalore University and St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organized a two-day district-level speech competition titled “Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament” at the St. Agnes College campus on March 22 and 23, 2025.

The event aimed to engage and empower youth in the nation-building process, providing them a platform to discuss and deliberate on key issues facing the country. The objective of this initiative is to create awareness among the youth about the Constitution and Parliamentary system of the country.

The event saw participation of over 150 students across the Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kodagu districts, with representation from over 300 districts nationwide. The selected 150 participants took part in a three-minute speech competition and presented their views on the topic of “One Nation, One Election”, which was held at St. Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru.

Inaugurating the program, Principal of St. Agnes College Sr Dr M Venissa said, “Students are the future leaders of the country. The youth have a significant responsibility to protect the integrity and heritage of the country. Our goal should be to brighten the future of the country through poverty eradication and women empowerment.”

Lokesh Kumar, Deputy Director of Nehru Yuva Kendra, who gave details of the Youth Parliament competition, Mangalore University Political Science Lecturer Prof. Dayanand Nayak, National Service Scheme Coordinator Dr. Sheshappa Amin K, NSS programme Officer of St. Agnes College Dr. Udayakumar B, Nehru Yuva Kendra Administrative Assistant Jagadish. K. and other esteemed guests. Dhanyashree, II BSc compered the inaugural program while Prapthi, I BSc student compered the valedictory program.

The judges of the Youth Parliament were Prof. Dayanand Nayak, senior journalists P B Harish Rai, Pushparaj B N, Advocate Nishan N and Roopashree Dharmaiah Sharma.

The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament provided a valuable platform for the youth of India to engage in discussions and deliberations on key national issues. The event was successful in bringing together students, government officials, and other stakeholders to collectively work towards the nation’s progress and development.

Competition Winners: The details of the 10 winners for the state level competition (State Level topics: 75 Years of the Indian Constitution: A Journey of Rights, Duties, and Progress; or The 11 Sankalp of Samvidhan Divas: A Pledge to Strengthen India’s Constitutional Values) which will happen on 27th March at Bengaluru are as follows: Abhijay N S, Shourya H S, Sahana Praveen Bhandari, Mariyam Fasnath Faza, Christon Joshua Menezes, Privy DSouza, T Sharanya, Charlie Saraswati, Avinash Paul Fernandes, Manu Shetty.
