St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, the Departments of Science organized an awareness program on The POSH Act for BSc students on 13 February 2025. The session was led by Dr. Deviprabha Alva, Associate Professor of Commerce and a Certified POSH Trainer. The objective of this session was educating students on gender sensitization, workplace ethics, and legal provisions under the POSH Act. The event saw an active participation from the entire BSc student body and the science faculty, making it an engaging and interactive session.

The program began with a comprehensive introduction to the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act, highlighting its significance in ensuring a safe and inclusive environment. Dr. Devi Prabha Alva provided real-life insights into workplace harassment, the importance of gender equality, and the role of individuals in fostering a safe space. To enhance engagement, videos depicting various scenarios of gender discrimination and harassment in professional and social settings were presented.

Key topics covered during the session included gender equality, gender sensitization, workplace safety, and the role of individuals in preventing harassment. Discussions extended beyond workplace scenarios, addressing how gender biases persist in different spheres of life and the collective efforts required breaking these stereotypes. The speaker elaborated on legal protection against harassment, the rights of victims, and the procedures for reporting incidents.

To assess students’ understanding, an interactive quiz was conducted, covering gender laws, equality, and ethical behaviour. This approach kept the students actively engaged, making the session both informative and enjoyable. The program concluded with a powerful message on the importance of fostering a respectful and safe environment not just in the workplace but in all the aspects of life. The session successfully instilled awareness among students, empowering them with crucial knowledge.
