From the Department of Clinical Psychology at St Agnes Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research, as a part of the curriculum, the students of I MSc. Clinical Psychology made a visit to Mussanje – A palliative care home for debriefing the assessments previously conducted.

This outreach program was conducted for the students to get firsthand exposure to the psychological and emotional needs of elderly individuals. This experience aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, fostering empathy, clinical assessment skills and a deeper understanding of palliative care.

The objective of this program was to enhance students’ ability to observe and interact with geriatric individuals experiencing various physical and emotional challenges, to provide students with an opportunity to debrief the assessments they have conducted and to expose students to practical application of psychological principles in a palliative care setting.

The day began with students introducing themselves to the doctors and conveying to them the purpose of our visit. The students then had to debrief about the assessments previously conducted on the individuals of Palliative Care Home to Dr. Leonard Machado, MD in Community Medicine, Dr. Ashwini, MD in Pharmacology and Mr. Oliver. The students also had an enriching discussion with the doctors regarding various assessments, empathy, psychological well-being and palliative care.
