St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, organised an Orientation session on “Empowering Youth” in association with Young Indians (YI), Mangaluru. The speakers were Ms M. Athmika Amin, Chair, YI, Mangaluru and Mr. Durgadas Shetty, YUVA Chair, YI, Mangaluru.
All the II and III year degree students attended the programme which was held on 24 July 2024 at Mother Mary Aloysia Centenary Auditorium. This session began by invoking God’s blessings led by the college choir. Ms. Michelle D’Souza delivered the welcome speech and introduced the speakers.
The speakers spoke on various aspects of “Empowering Youth” among the Young Indians. They stressed on the importance and the need of Empowerment among young people to the society. Young Indians (Yi) is a movement for Indian youth to Converge, Lead, Co-Create and influence India’s Future as an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Yi is open to any person of Indian descent aged between 21 and 40. An existing member can continue until the age of 45. The membership welcomes people from all walks of life and all professions. A committed Indian, whether a lawyer, doctor, farmer, entrepreneur or NGO worker, can become a member and contribute to path breaking nation-building activities and chapter initiatives. The main pillars of Young Indians are Youth Leadership, Nation Building and Thought Leadership. The aspects they covered were Yuva, Learning Mission, International Engagement, Learning Session and National Summit.
The initiatives taken up by the Young Indians are Accessibility, Climate change, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, International Membership, Project Masoom, Project Road Safety, Rural Initiatives, TogetHer Tribe.
Mrs. Sabina D’Souza, Asst. Professor, Department of Business Administration was the Co-ordinator of the programme. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Razwa Quasim from III BA.
