A Seminar on Starting an NGO and the role of a Psychologist in dealing with children with special needs was organised by the Department of Psychology, Centre for Post Graduate Studies and Research, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru on 6 December 2022.

Ms Pallavi Addiga, Director, Rajpal Healthcare Center Llp, addressed students on starting an NGO and the role of a Psychologist in dealing with children with special needs .

The speaker oriented about procedure of starting a NGO which includes Define Mission and Objectives, decide the Board of Directors/Trustees: Form a governing body consisting of individuals who share your vision and can contribute to the organization’s development. Define their roles and responsibilities, Name and Registration: Choose a unique name for your NGO and conduct a name availability search. Then, register your organization

She further spoke about- Memorandum of Association/Trust Deed: Prepare the Memorandum of Association (for a Section 8 Company) or Trust Deed (for a Trust) outlining your organization’s objectives, rules, and regulations and Governing Document: Draft the governing document (bylaws, rules, or regulations) that outlines the internal functioning of your organization, including membership criteria, roles of the governing body, and decision-making processes.

She also spoke about Fundraising and Grant Applications: Develop a fundraising strategy and explore various sources of funding, including grants from government bodies, foundations, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
