On April 3, 2025, the Department of Computer Animation organized a workshop titled “Role of AI in Next-Gen Video & Animation” at the A2 Auditorium. The workshop aimed to educate students on the integration and impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the evolving fields of video production and animation. With the rapid advancements in AI technologies, this session was designed to explore how AI is revolutionizing industries such as 3D animation, visual effects, movie production, and more.

The primary objective of the workshop was to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of AI applications in the creative domains of animation and video production. The workshop aimed to cover the following key areas:

  • The role of AI in 3D Animation
  • Usage of AI in Visual Effects (VFX)
  • The impact of AI in movie production
  • AI-driven websites and plugins for animation and video editing

A total of 12 students participated in the workshop, which included individuals from different academic years—1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year students from both BA and BSc programs. The diverse group allowed for an engaging exchange of ideas, with students from different backgrounds and levels of experience in animation and technology. The workshop delved into various practical and theoretical aspects of how AI is changing the landscape of animation and video production.

Below are the key topics that were discussed:

Mr. Prathik Ramesh explained how AI tools are being integrated into the 3D animation process. Topics included the automation of rigging, facial animation, and even generating realistic movements and environments using AI-driven algorithms. Students learned about AI-based software that can drastically reduce production times while enhancing the quality of animations.

A significant portion of the workshop focused on the evolving role of AI in the movie industry. The resource person showcased how AI is revolutionizing post-production processes, making it faster, more efficient, and more cost-effective. Additionally, AI-driven software is being used to analyze large amounts of data to predict audience preferences and improve movie-making strategies.Mr. Ramesh also introduced students to a variety of AI-powered websites and plugins that can aid in animation and video production. He demonstrated some online platforms that use AI to automate tasks. Students were encouraged to explore these tools to understand how AI can streamline their workflow and improve their own projects.
