The Department of Commerce, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru organized a workshop on ‘Presentation Skills and Self Awareness’ for the first-year B.Com students on 24 June 2022.
The keynote speaker for the day was Ms Shavina Soans, a freelance soft skills trainer, and consultant. Ms Soans has worked as a trainer for iPoint, is a consultant at Lykora, Mangaluru and is a faculty member for Soft Skills at ICAI, Mangaluru.
The workshop commenced with a prayer song by Ms Leesha Rodrigues and group followed by a welcome speech and the introduction of the speaker by Ms Alisha Sequeira.
Ms Soans began the session with an activity and introduced the topic of ‘Presentation Skills’ to the students. This topic was elaborated in-depth as it is an essential skill to possessin the corporate world. Ms Soans discussed a few tips to make a good presentation, the Dos and Don’ts of presentation and the common mistakes that occurred when a person was giving a presentation. Ms Soans also stressed the importance of voice modulation, which helps in getting the presenter’s message across to the audience clearly and effectively.
Ms Soans conducted an activity on self-awareness. With the help of the activity, the students became aware of their reactions to various scenarios. This activity made them aware of their strengths and weaknesses. Ms Soans asked the students to mull over their strengths and weaknesses and to enhance their skills in order to overcome their weaknesses.
Ms Anusha Noronha and Mrs Bianca Shriyan were the staff coordinators. Ms Alisha Sequeira compered the workshop. The Vote of Thanks was presented by Ms Sandria D’souza. The workshop concluded with the College Anthem.
