National Mathematics Day was celebrated on 18 January 2024 at 1.30 pm in the A2 room. The event was marked by various activities to commemorate the contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan to mathematics and the significance of mathematics in our lives.

Dr Adelaide Saldanha, former Head of the Mathematics Department, was the chief guest for the day. The program started with a divine invocation. Ms. Meghana A Rao delivered a comprehensive PPT presentation on the life and work of the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. This was followed by a lively spot quiz based on the presentation, and the students participated actively.

The event featured a seminar competition judged by Dr Adelaide Saldanha and Mrs Vidyasaraswathi S, the HOD of the Mathematics Department. Seven participants took part, covering diverse subjects such as Applications of Differential Equations, Ramanujan’s Magic Square, Four-Color Theorems, and Mathematics in Music etc. Dr Adelaide Saldanha, the chief guest, shared insights into the book “Fascinating World of Mathematics,” discussing the author and the significance of the book. Furthermore, she engaged the audience in an interactive session by imparting and demonstrating practical knowledge – art of embroidery and origami through mathematics. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by vice president of science – Tenisha Pinto.
