The main objective of this industrial visit was to educate the students on the process involved in production. Students were accompanied by the faculty of members of Commerce. The management was very helpful in explaining the manufacturing processes as well as in guiding the students. They were shown around the factory starting from the outside, where trucks were unloading green tender coconuts into large containers which were then cleaned efficiently by an automated machine. After the cleaning process, these cleaned coconuts were transferred to another chamber where they were accurately halved by another machine. This process was also, like the cleaning process, overseen by factory workers at all times. The water from the coconuts would need separate processing. The water, being a perishable substance, is extracted and stored at -18°C. Meanwhile, the workers carefully remove the pulp from the halved coconuts, taking care of the impurities. The brown layer does not enter the machine that processes the pulp. The white pulp is cut into pieces by the machine, after which the cubes are put into the sugar syrup. This mix is then frozen at -18°C in pouches and put into ice creams. 201 Students of I B.Com. were the beneficiaries.
The industrial visit was well appreciated by the students and they found it knowledgeable and gained practical exposure regarding the functioning of industry.
