St Agnes College (Autonomus), Mangaluru celebrated Librarians’ Day on 13 August 2022. Reading improves thinking ability and analytical skills said Prof. Talawar, Former Vice Chancellor of Mysore University, who was the Chief Guest at the celebration. He praised the outstanding contributions of Dr S.R. Ranganathan to the development of libraries from an unorganized library to a more systematic process ofarranging and preserving the treasure house of knowledge. Being a renowned thinker and a teacher Dr Ranganathan was a multifaceted personality, travelled to various countries to understand the methodology of compilation, classification and catalogue. Prof Talwar stressed the need to give access to anyone in need of a book, since every book has a reader. He advised the student community to read a book to improve vocabulary, mental ability and communication skills.

Dr Khasar M Khan, Guest of Honour speaking on the occasion briefed on the purpose behind the celebration of Librarians’ day. In the era of the digital library, there is a need to revisit the efforts put by Dr Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science he said.

Sr Dr Venissa A.C., the Principal, in her presidential address said that the Libraries with the books and digital sources enrich readers’ knowledge and promote research.Dr.Vishala, Librarian welcomed the gathering, and Mrs Crystal Nisha, Asst. Librarian proposed a vote of thanks and Ms Rhea Sequeira, student President compeeredthe programme.

Sr Carmel Rita A.C., Administrator, Sr Dr Vinora A.C., Coordinator of P.G. Centre, Charles Pais, the Registrar were present.

During the occasion, the books were distributed to the Kannada Primary School children. The exhibition is open to all from 13-20 August 2022.
