The session commenced with a warm welcome from the organizing committee, after which Mr Ravi Bhat, Founder Partner, DuoTech Global, an expert in the field, took center stage and engaged the audience with his interactive and informative talk.
He began by providing an in-depth overview of Linux’s history and evolution, tracing its origins back to the early 1990s when Linus Torvalds, a Finnish software engineer, developed it as a personal project. Initially, Linux started as a small operating system kernel designed for enthusiasts and developers who wanted an open-source alternative to proprietary system.
Ravi Bhat explained how Linux evolved from a niche project into one of the most widely used operating systems in the world today. He emphasized its role in modern technology, highlighting its presence in personal computers, enterprise-level applications, cloud computing, and cybersecurity. He pointed out that major tech companies, including Google, Facebook, and Amazon, rely heavily on Linux-based systems for their servers and cloud infrastructure. Furthermore, he discussed how Linux powers a wide range of devices, from smartphones and smart TVs to supercomputers and embedded systems.
To enhance the learning experience, a live practical demonstration was conducted, where Ravi Bhat showcased how Linux operates in real time. He guided students through basic Linux commands, showing them how to navigate the file system, execute scripts, and manage system processes. This hands-on approach helped students visualize and understand the working of Linux beyond theoretical explanations.
To make the session even more engaging, a quiz was conducted, where students were encouraged to answer questions related to Linux concepts that was covered during the session. The interactive nature of the quiz sparked enthusiasm among the participants, as they competed to showcase their understanding. As a fun incentive, chocolates were distributed to students who answered correctly, adding an element of excitement to the session. As the session came to an end, students expressed their appreciation for the engaging and informative experience. The practical demonstration and quiz made the learning process enjoyable and helped them gain confidence in using Linux.
Overall, the session on “Introduction to Linux” by Ravi Bhat was a huge success. It not only deepened the students’ knowledge of Linux but also encouraged them to explore the world of open-source technology further. The combination of interactive discussions, practical applications, and engaging activities made the event a memorable and enriching learning experience for all students. All the final year BCA students and the faculty members participated in this session.
