The PG Department of Business Administration (MBA), St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangaluru, in association with Alcoholics Anonymous, organized the first series of talk titled, “From Binge to Sobriety: Insights from Alcoholics Anonymous” for MBA and MCA students on 16 February 2024. The program was inaugurated by Prof. Gerard Dsouza, who introduced the resource person to the MBA and MCA students.

The program delved into various aspects of the Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) program, focusing on its 12-step philosophy, open dialogue sessions, and its impact on mental well-being. The AA program’s 12-step approach provides a structured framework for self-reflection, spiritual growth, and recovery. Participants engage with each step progressively, addressing different aspects of their lives and developing coping mechanisms for sustained living.

The meetings facilitate open and honest dialogue, allowing participants to express their thoughts, challenges, and successes without fear of judgment. This transparent communication contributes to a culture of accountability, encouraging individuals to confront their issues head-on.

Participants often report improved mental well-being, citing a reduction in stress, anxiety, and depression. The program’s holistic approach addresses not only the physical aspects of addiction but also the emotional and spiritual dimensions, contributing to overall mental health.

The resource speaker provided examples of how alcohol has destroyed lives and affected families in society, contrasting it with the transformative power of Alcoholics Anonymous in saving lives. Notably, the program’s origins were traced back to the publication of the book “Alcoholics Anonymous” in April 1939, and its subsequent recognition through awards in 1951 and 1956.

At the end of the program, a question and answer session was conducted by the resource speaker. This session provided students with the opportunity to clarify doubts and gain further insights into the AA program.

The Alcoholics Anonymous program continues to be a valuable resource for individuals seeking support in overcoming alcohol addiction. Emphasizing community, self-reflection, and mentorship, it creates a supportive environment contributing to positive outcomes for many participants.

The program provided valuable insights into the AA program and its impact on individuals’ lives, emphasizing the importance of support systems and holistic approaches in addressing addiction issues.
