“Turn your spark into a flame”, was the vision of introducing the 1st year Postgraduates by providing them a platform to explore their uniqueness and showcase their strengths and talents to the entire Postgraduate family. With this view, the first and foremost program of the academic year 2019-20 ‘The Fresher’s Day’ held on 20th July 2019 at St. Agnes College PG Auditorium gave a boost to begin this year enthusiastically. The program commenced at 9:30 am when Miss Arathy Chandhran took the privilege of welcoming everyone. The 1st year Clinical Psychology students gave a good start to the program with their amazing performance on the theme ‘Retro’. It was followed by a short yet sweet performance by the 1st year Big Data Analytics students on the theme ‘Music Trends’. The next chance was taken up by the students of 1st Chemistry who gave an amazing performance the on theme ‘Fear Fight Survival’. In order to cheer up the seated audience there was a game (musical chair) for the lecturers and the chance was given to one lecturer from each department; and Mrs. Geetha from the Department of Chemistry turned out to be the winner.
The next performance was from the Department of English with an exclusive theme of ‘Be Yourself’. Then came the students of 1st year General Psychology with their mesmerizing performance on the theme ‘Halloween’. The final performance was from the students of 1st Commerce who gave a perfect end for the Fresher’s day performances with their theme ‘Kudla Express’. Then it was time for refreshments at 11:25am with delicious cutlets and ice cream being served. After a short break the program continued at 11:45 am. For the first time, the college Cabinet introduced ‘The New Agnesian Contest’, to recognize the proactive spirit among Freshers. Student President Miss Anna Una Crasta took charge to introduce the contest and it’s objectives, thereafter and welcoming the judges for the day, Mr. Delan Lobo, UG Department of Commerce and Ms Athena Aranha, UG Department of Psychology who are the alumni and former Cabinet members of the St. Agnes PG centre.
The first contestant was from the Department of Commerce, followed by General Psychology, English, Chemistry and final contestant from the Department of Clinical Psychology. There was no contestant from the Department of Big Data Analytics. Miss Chris from the Department of secured the ‘New Agnesian’ title with comparatively higher points than the other participants. She was crowned and awarded by the St. Agnes PG Coordinator Dr. Sr. Vinora A C while the HODs of various Departments awarded a bookmark and pen to their respective New Agnesian participants. The contest was hosted by Miss Sharon Vas and Miss Unnimaya Madhu with charm and cheer. Miss Anna proposed the Vote of Thanks declaring an end to the formally informal ‘Fresher’s Day’ while Dr. Sr. Vinora A C gave a memento to the judges as a token of our gratitude. The program came to an end at 12:45 pm after which mass dance was enjoyed till 1:30 pm.
