On the occasion of National Engineer’s Day, 28 students of the Department of Political Science and 6 from Chemistry as a part of Green Initiative Project visited this industrial area and witnessed the process of Biofuel under the guidance of Mrs Gayathri B.K., Head, Department of Political Science, St Agnes College.
Biofuels have the potential to contribute to several global goals, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing energy security, diversifying energy sources, creating jobs, and supporting rural development. By using local resources and technologies, biofuels can reduce dependence on oil imports and increase energy access for remote or poor communities.
These centres are collecting seeds from farmers, processing, biodiesel production, value addition, training, awareness, R&D activities and & marketing on biofuels. It is helping Farmers, Students, Entrepreneurs, etc., by providing practical training and demonstration of biofuels and creating an enabling atmosphere for the development of biofuel in the district.
Students were shown departments like Materials, Manufacturing Department, Stores, etc. Students were briefed about the work culture and functioning of the entire biofuel process by Dr Ujwala P., Head, Department of Biotechnology Engineering and Dr Santhosh Poojary, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology Engineering. They also answered all the questions asked by the students in detail. Students learnt many practical aspects of the centre’s working during the visit. This visit helped students to bridge the gap between theory and Practicals. This visit will also help students in future practical life and bring change in their practical behaviour regarding education and specialising their skills in favour of the environment.
