The Post Graduate Department of Chemistry, St Agnes College (Autonomous), Mangalurui n collaboration with the student cabinet, organised ‘THE JOY OF GIVING’ from 6 October to 15 October 2022, with the intriguing idea of being inspired by the Daan Utsav concept and encouraging all St Agnes students and working staff to participate. Daan Utsav, the Joy of Giving Week, is India’s annual “giving festival,” held from 2 to 8 October. During this week, millions of people from all walks of life come together to give their time, money, resources, or skills to society. They accomplish this by organizing or participating in events of their choice.

The box was placed in the library and at the PG office. On 6 October 2022, the Department of Chemistry hosted the inaugural of Daan Utsav. The Class representative Sinchana, Cabinet member Dhanush and the Chem Aura association representative Navaneetha were the spearheaded the programme.

Teachers and students actively participated in the program by donating stationery items to needy poor children and the drive was extended until 15 October 2022. On 22 October 2022, PG and UG students from St Agnes College, Mangaluru carried the collected stationery items to be donated to needy students from various schools. Dr. Likhitha U the programme coordinator and a few M.Sc. Chemistry students visited St Joseph Higher Primary School in Pajeer. It is located in the rural area of Karnataka’s Dakshina Kannada district. The PG and UG students interacted with kids through activities such as balloon passing, Zumba, biscuit eating competition, dancing to your favorite music, and so on. Prizes were given out for their active participation, and the funds collected were distributed, making the students happy and loved.
