The Post Graduate Department of Commerce, St. Agnes College (Autonomous) organised its second international conference on the theme business resilience in the turbulent global markets. The conference was for two days and was inaugurated by Dr Gilbert Nduru, Director, International Program, Linkages and Researches University of Karatina, Kenya. In his inaugural address, Prof. Gilbert pointed out that Business Resilience is absolutely necessary for companies today. He also briefed the audience about the linkage programs of University of Karatina an about the other academic and research activities in the university since its inception in the year 2007.
The chief guest Mr Vishwanath Goel who being an industrialist said that turbulence is absolutely necessary for every business. The key note address was delivered by Dr Prasanna Chandra, Retd. Prof. in Finance IIM (B) and renowned author, currently he’s a Director of Centre of Financial Management, Bangalore, a foundation for dissemination of knowledge. In an exhaustive manner, Prof. Chandra covered various International and National companies and their sustenance and profit strategies that have enabled them to face turbulence.
The Resource Person for the first technical session was Prof. Gilbert who spoke on ‘Adaptation of Global Turbulence as Tool for Creating Resilient and Sustainable Business’ and presented before the audience an elaborate strategy on how companies can convert hurdles and challenges as opportunities for growth. The post lunch second technical session was chaired by Industrialist Vishwanath Goel who presented a brilliant overview of legal, financial, human resource, environmental and political challenges faced by businesses. He illustrated the case of Shivam Holdings, a cement manufacturing concern which recently got into a joint venture with a Chinese cement manufacturer and has come up with the huge cement plant in Nepal. The formal part of the first day concluded with three parallel sessions wherein nearly 50 paper presenters presented their research papers and the external moderators for the sessions were Dr.Mallikarjunappa, Dr Jnaneshwar Pai and Dr Preethi Dsouza. The internal moderators were Dr.Vishala, Ms Dolan and Dr. Catherine. The day came to a colorful end with an enchanting cultural programme put up by the M Com. Students in honour of the International guest.
