The session began with a formal welcome address, acknowledging Ms. Athira’s extensive contributions to the field of clinical psychology and neuropsychology. Ms. Athira, an RCI-licensed clinical psychologist, holds an M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology from NIMHANS, Bangalore, and an M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology from St. Agnes College, Mangalore. Her additional qualifications include a certificate course in special education, a diploma in Yoga and Health Sciences, and specialized training in EEG Neurofeedback.
Ms. Athira is currently serving as a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Neurology at NIMHANS, actively contributing to a longitudinal study on Atypical Parkinsonism through neuropsychological evaluations and advanced neuroimaging techniques. Her career also spans roles at NIMHANS, Sanjeevani Mental Health Clinic, Skilling India, and IIM Kozhikode, where she has made significant contributions to mental health interventions, research, and academic mentoring.
During the session, Ms. Athira shared her journey from M.Phil. to her current research endeavors, offering insights into the challenges and milestones in her career. Ms. Athira facilitated the understanding of research in an elaborate manner, through sharing her research experiences from her Masters Thesis Research Internship and Research Support work.
Ms. Athira addressed the professional and personal challenges that come across as a part of being in the psychology field. She also shared her experiences as a guest speaker, as a trainer and presenter in conferences, workshops and training programs as well.
The program concluded with a Question and Answer session, which included clarifications and her guidance on various areas. The Alumni Engagement Meet allowed fostering connections between alumni and current students while celebrating the achievements of Ms. Athira P. M. Ms. Athira’s presence was both inspiring and informative, providing attendees with valuable perspectives on clinical psychology and research.
